SeniorTix Website Redesign

A UX design project to improve the usability of SeniorTix through accessibility and user evaluation.

My role : Lead UX Designer

Overview: SeniorTix is a website that aggregates senior citizen discounts on events, outings, and activities.

Challenge: Identify accessibility issues with SeniorTix website by observing users, and create hi-fidelity prototypes.

Solution: Conduct an accessibility evaluation and fix any usability and accessibility issues.

Accessibility Evaluation

I conducted a usability study with many users of SeniorTix and here are my findings:

  1. The font size on filters are hard to read and hard to click on for the user.

  2. Size of type is very small and hard to read.

  3. Hard to navigate due to low contrast, size of type on card elements.

While observing our users, I identified several accessibility issues with the card components.

  1. Contrast between cards and the writing is very low, making it hard to read for young person, let alone a senior citizen.

  2. Call to action button is very easy to miss, looks no different than any other information on the card.

  3. Discount amount is not shown, just a color. User keeps having to refer to the side panel to see the amount of discount.

I decided to tackle these first, since they are a key component to using SeniorTix and affect many of the users that were interviewed, and participants of the usability tests.

Ideation

Next, I sketched out 4 possible solutions to improve the design and accessibility of the cards. I prioritized clean clutter-free design, legible headings and titles, and hard to miss call to action buttons.

I then sketched out a more detailed version of the design I chose from these 4 sketches.

  • clear high contrast image

  • card title, pricing information, description, easier to see

  • call-to-action button is bigger, more defined, easier to read

I then took my design into Figma and created a fidelity prototype and a more detailed version of the screen.

Key Takeaways and Next Steps:

  • Incredibly important to design with accessibility in mind, because it creates an inclusive and equal participation for users.

  • Small improvements can make the biggest difference in the accessibility of a design.

  • I would like to work more on accessibility projects to offer everyone an equal and fair experience.
